Chickasaw Trails, Oakville Indian Mounds, Oakville, Alabama, September 9

The Blaze Harriers returned to an old favorite, Oakville, Alabama; however, this was not the Jesse Owens meet held in early October. Instead, this was the smaller and more concentrated Chickasaw Trails in early September. As usual this course, down the street from Jesse Owens’ birthplace, did not disappoint with beautiful weather and fast times.

The Blaze, without the services of Casey Clementz and completing a VERY busy week of Homecoming and Blaze Bash activities, finished behind Macon County (TN) in 37th place. Despite the tiredness and exhaustion, the times were Oakville fast. Sophomore Aidan Crockett led the Blaze with a season best time of 18:47 (176th). Luke Porter also recorded a season best (19:17) and Alex Ketel was right behind in 19:20. Julian Young (19:28) and Griffin Collins (19:53) rounded out the scoring with either season bests or near season bests. Owen Vinson coming off of a very busy Friday with homecoming and band activities, finished in 20:12, while Caleb Newton ran a very solid 20:54.

The Lady Blaze finished behind Albertville (AL) in 30th place with 835 points. Megan Roth scored a Top 100 finish with a season best of 21:44. Amanda May continued her climb cutting significant time of her season best with a 24:39. Aiyanna Gallant also cut a lot of time off of her season best with a time of 24:53. Olivia Sorrell (25:31), Loren Osborne (26:20), and Kayla Zuck (29:31) also ran quality races with Oakvillesque times.

In the final race of the day the “B” teamers, or JV Boys, ran in the largest race of the day. The Blaze Junior Harriers finished in 26th place (773 points), two behind Guntersville (AL) (771) and one ahead of Muscle Shoals (AL) 774.

Senior Chad Brandon led the way with a 99th place finish (20:17) and freshman Daniel Koralewski was not far behind (20:43). Kyle Dodson was a minute behind in 168th while Sterling Smith, coming off of a nagging injury, ran a solid 22:31. Taichi Nosaka (22:48), Jack Allen (22:57), AJ Bloomfield (26:26), adn Adam Rhinehart (27:48) finished out the racing for the Blaze.

Both teams will next be in action September 23 at the McCallie Invitational at Moccasin Bend in Chattanooga.
